When a crack needs a ruler, not a guess
Measuring and mapping cracks so the cause can be argued.
In short: Major cracking in concrete and floors examined during an investigation in Forestville.
Not all cracks are equal
A hairline shrinkage crack and a crack that widens through a slab are different problems. Width, pattern and direction tell them apart.
What an investigation records
Each crack is measured, photographed and located, so its progress can be checked later and its cause argued from evidence.
A worked example
At a Forestville investigation, major cracking ran through outdoor concrete, pointing to thin pavement, poor preparation or too little steel.
What clay adds
On Tallawong's reactive soils, changes in moisture move slabs and paving. Cracking near downpipes or garden beds often points there first.
What comes next
If structure is in doubt the report names an engineer. If the matter is headed to NCAT, an expert witness report follows.
